The future of management in the Town of Purcellville’s Fireman’s Field complex should shape up this week.
The Town Council will meet this Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 6 p.m. in a special meeting to vote on an amendment to the contract between the town and Shaun Alexander Enterprises for the management of the 15.89-acre complex. If approved, the contract modification will lay out Alexander’s requirements for operations and maintenance moving into 2019.
The last modification happened on Sept. 25, when the Town Council voted unanimously to move Alexander’s responsibility for maintenance of the athletic field and to reduce his 2018 monthly rent payments from $10,000 to $4,000.
While Town Manager David Mekarski and Town Attorney Sally Hankins have been negotiating further contract amendments with Alexander ever since, the Town Council’s first look at the contract’s newest language came during an hour-long session closed to the public last Tuesday.
While Alexander is currently under contract to “preserve, manage and operate” the complex, the county’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department has operated and maintained the athletic field since Oct. 2. Alexander on Nov. 1 also subcontracted with the Purcellville Teen Center to manage the Bush Tabernacle.
