According to the Virginia Lottery, Sterling resident Terry Mudd has a bad habit of forgetting to pick up one thing on his wife’s shopping list. That’s why the he had to make a return trip to the Food Lion at Briarcroft Plaza. While he was there, he also picked up a $30 Million Cash Out ticket.
The scratch-off ticket was one of four $1 million top prize winners. Mudd told Lottery representatives that he said he planned to surprise his wife, Madonna, with the winning ticket as a Valentine’s Day present, but after they got into an argument over finances, he retrieved the ticket and gave it to his wife in an envelope marked “Terry + Madonna’s retirement.”
The couple had the choice of taking the full $1 million over 30 years or a one-time cash option of $657,030 before taxes. They chose the cash option.
Although they recently bought an RV and plan to travel across the county, neither intends to retire just yet, according to the announcement.
The $30 Million Cash Out game features prizes ranging from $10 to $1,000,000. This is the third top prize claimed, which means there is one more unclaimed top prize in this game.
