Woodgrove High School senior River Stone placed sixth all-around at the VHSL States Individual competition on Saturday in Virginia Beach.
Stone placed seventh on vault and floor and eighth on bars. There were approximately 40 gymnasts from schools across the state competing in each event.
As co-captain of the WHS team, Stone led her teammates to multiple first-place finishes in district competition throughout the season; the team ended the season as regional runners-up to cross-town rival Loudoun Valley High School by less than two-tenths of a point on Feb. 8.
“River had a beautiful finish to a stellar high school career,” said Woodgrove coach Margie Barnes.
An academic leader in her class as well, Stone has been accepted early action to the University of Virginia.
