Mavis Taintor, the Democratic candidate for 33rdDistrict House seat, will formally launch her campaign Monday at Creek’s Edge Winery.
The event will feature guest speaker U.S. Rep. Jennifer Wexton (D-VA-10).
Taintor has targeted addiction and mental health care services, increased funding for education, and investment in the infrastructure of Loudoun, Clarke, and Frederick counties as top priorities in her bid to defeat incumbent Republican Dave LaRock.
“Residents have a crucial chance to take a stand for the people of our district and rebuke the status quo of career politicians who ignore our communities while stuffing their own pockets with corporate dollars. Our ineffective Republican representative has allowed our district to be left behind for far too long, and 2019 is the year we show that we’ve had enough,” she stated.
A former Head Start teacher and successful entrepreneur, Taintor said she decided to run for office when her son Conan died from a heroin/fentanyl overdose three years ago.
“My son struggled with addiction and mental health problems for years, but the existing services in this area just did not have the services to help him get better,” Taintor said. “A big part of the reason I’m running is to make sure that no family has to go through what mine did.”
The kickoff event is a fundraiser and tickets may be purchased online or at the door.
The event begins a 6 p.m.
