Young Loudoun Chemists Advance to State Finals

Eight Loudoun County Public Schools students advanced to the Virginia state-wide competition for the You Be the Chemist competition that will be held Saturday in Richmond. Harper Park Middle School hosted the regional competition for Loudoun on March 13.

Nikhil Boyalla, an eighth grader from J Michael Lunsford Middle School, took first place in the regional competition. Trailside Middle School eight grader SaloNee Verma placed second. Eighth graders Ellie Vest from Ridge Middle School, Nirav Kottury from Eagle Ridge Middle School and Sravya Patibandla from Eagle Ridge Middle School took third through fifth place, respectively.

Closing out the winner’s circle is Nehi Joshi, a seventh grader from Smarts Mill Middle School, and eighth graders Tom Coleman and Barzin Badiee, both from Harper Park Middle School. Because Badiee and Vest are not able to attend the state competition, Edwin Kyle and Smaran Pasupulati will serve as alternates. Kyle is in seventh grade at Blue Ridge Middle School and Pasupulati is in eighth grade at J. Michael Lunsford Middle School.
