Contractor Drowns During Ashburn Dam Maintenance

A Maryland man died Monday morning after he was swept away while removing debris from the dam at the Goose Creek Reservoir in Ashburn.

The victim, JorgeTorres, Jr., 29, was working for a commercial dive company that was contracted by Loudoun Water to clear debris from the dam area.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the man was attached to a safety line when the moving water pulled him over the dam. Co-workers attempted to free him but were unsuccessful.

Authorities were called to the scene at 6:45 a.m.
