Singing to Help Others: Loudoun Musicians Give Back with Performances Saturday

Many members of Loudoun’s growing community of musical performers share more than stages around the county’s wineries, breweries and bars; they’re also quick to step up to help others.

That service will be spotlighted with two Leesburg events Saturday, May 11. Both events will go on rain or shine.

The Cancer Can Rock Deck Party at Spanky’s Shenanigans kicks off at noon with a lineup of well-established local favorites along with some up and coming performers. The five-hour event features sets by Todd Wright, Tommy Gann, Teddy Chipouras, and Chris Timbers, along with the sibling duo of Johnny and Anna Kasun, and Angus Ebert, the singer-songwriter son of CCR founder Jim Ebert.

Cancer Can Rock is a nonprofit that gives gifted musicians diagnosedwith aggressive cancer an opportunity to record and share talents with the world. It provides producers, studio musicians and facilities to ensure their musical legacy lives on.

Organizers ask for a $10 donation and Spanky’s Shenanigans will contribute 10 percent of food and beverage sales to the nonprofit. Spanky’s Shenanigans is located at 538 E. Market St in the Leesburg Plaza shopping center. In the event of rain, the event will move inside.

Also on Saturday, at the Paxton Manor campus near downtown Leesburg, artists are lining up to help raise money and awareness for The Arc of Loudoun, which supports residents with disabilities and their families.

From noon to 8 p.m., there will be music, libations, food, and children’s activities including a Loudoun County Fire-Rescue Touch a Truck display. A live public auction will be held at 1 p.m. offering furniture, art, tools, bikes, garden accessories and more, with all proceeds going to The Arc.

KAGE, the 2019 Loudoun’s Youth Battle of the Bands winner, kicks off the music at 12:30 p.m. and the Frayed Knots will close the day with a set starting at 6:30 p.m. In between are performances by the King Street Band, the Creative Dane Center’s Cast Dancers, Jack Squared, the Loudounettes, and Shreve Mill.

Admission is free. VIP passes are available for $20.

The Arc of Loudoun is located at 601 Catoctin Circle, NE.
