The Army West Point hockey team honored Ashburn Ice House Assistant General Manager Bill Day with the Derek Hines Award, which recognizes those who have displayed extraordinary support to the Army hockey program and share Hines’ values of caring more about giving than receiving and displaying passion for the Army hockey family.
The award is named in memory of 1st Lt. Derek Hines who was killed in battle in 2005.
“I’m humbled to be recognized with this award. Hockey has been a positive influence in my life and has provided some fantastic opportunities. I’m grateful to have a chance to give back to the sport, hopefully making a difference in someone else’s life,” Day said.
Before joining the Ashburn Ice House team last fall, Day served as a U.S. Army captain with his final assignment as director of hockey operations for the Army West Point hockey team where he also was a former player graduating in 2012.
“Bill is a wonderful addition to our staff. His passion and knowledge of hockey is evident through his dedication to our players and families,” stated General Manager Rob Lorenzen.
