Sterling Woman Killed in I-66 Crash
A 25-year-old Sterling women was killed early Wednesday morning in a crash on I-66 in Fairfax County.
Virginia State Police Trooper A. Aziz is investigating the two-vehicle crash, which happened at 1:55 a.m. at the 50-mile marker on the highway. According to a preliminary report, a flatbed tractor-trailer was parked on the right shoulder of the eastbound lanes of I-66. The vehicle did not have its lights on and the driver was asleep in the cab.
Randi L. Cockerille was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt eastbound when she ran into the back of the parked truck. The impact of the crash sparked a minor fire in her car, which the trooper was able to put out with a fire extinguisher.
Cockerille died at the scene.
The truck driver, a 35-year-old Iowa man, was not injured in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
