Visit Loudoun, the county’s tourism promotion organization, is accepting applications through June 21 for its fiscal year 2020 Sports Tournament Grant Reimbursement Program, which offers a total of $50,000 in grants to organizations that can host sporting events in Loudoun.
The program was designed to support bids on sports tournaments. It is open to parks and recreation departments and sports organizations that are able to promote and host tournaments beginning after Aug 1.
Sports tourism is one of the fastest-growing sectors in the global travel industry. In 2016, the amateur sports tourism industry contributed more than $20 million to Loudoun County’s economy, according to a study released by Visit Loudoun.
Visit Loudoun will provide funding for tournaments expected to have the greatest return on investment in terms of projected visitor spending through a competitive grant process. Applications are reviewed by a volunteer committee, and the Visit Loudoun board of directors votes on the committee’s recommendations to determine funding.
Applications are due by 4 p.m. June 21. Additional details about the program and the application are available on Visit Loudoun’s industry page at visitloudoun.org/sports/tournament-support or by emailing Visit Loudoun Director of Sales, Sports and Services Torye Hurst at email@example.com.
