The Town of Leesburg is set to embark on its own comprehensive plan review.
This week, the Town Council awarded a planning services contract to Stantec for assistance in preparing its Town Plan update. In February, the council had designated $325,000 of unassigned fiscal 2017 fund balance for planning and zoning contractual services to update the town’s community development and transportation planning policies.
According to a staff report, the town staff has estimated the comprehensive update will require approximately 650 hours of work from planning and zoning staff, and 300 hours from other departments for an estimated total of 950 hours. Two senior planners in the Planning and Zoning Department have been assigned to the project part time, and they will work directly with the consultant team and other staff to coordinate the project.
The project is expected to kick off this summer and be completed by summer or fall 2020. Public education and engagement are expected to be an important component of the project.
