Leesburg Emergency Room Temporarily Closed after Chemical Spill

Update: The Cornwall emergency room reopened shortly before 2 p.m. and is operating as normal.

A chemical spill has closed Inova Loudoun Hospital’s emergency room at its Cornwall medical campus in Leesburg.

The incident happened around 10 a.m. Saturday and caused fumes to enter the complex’s ventilation system. Two patients in the building were evacuated.

“The Inova Loudoun Medical Campus – Leesburg (Cornwall) has been closed following reports of an odor in the building. Out of an abundance of caution in keeping safety of our patients and team members at the center of what we do, we have temporarily closed the Cornwall ER pending an air quality review,” said April Brown, Inova Loudoun’s senior director, for Emergency and Trauma Services. “Patients were transported to Inova Lansdowne ER for continued care. We expect the ER to open later today.”

The Cornwall campus houses an emergency department, behavioral health clinic and imaging center.
