CHA Consulting will conduct a smoke test in Purcellville’s sanitary sewer system from Monday, Aug. 26 to Friday, Aug. 30.
The test will help the town locate breaks and defects in the sewer system. The town advises residents to pour a gallon of water into each floor drain prior to testing. If smoke enters the home, there is good reason to assume that dangerous sewer gases might also be entering, which should prompt immediate evacuation and notification to the inspectors. If a resident returns home and finds smoke, he or she should call the maintenance superintendent at 540-454-1559.
Although the smoke is non-toxic, non-staining, is odorless and does not create a fire hazard, anyone who has respiratory problems and is immobile is asked to alert the town prior to testing.
For more information, call the Public Works Department at 540-338-7440.
