Comments Sought on Plan to Reduce Stormwater Pollutants

Loudoun County is seeking public comments on a draft plan for reducing pollutants entering the Chesapeake Bay.

The draft Phase II Chesapeake Bay TMDL Action Plan outlines ways that the county intends to meet requirements for reducing the quantity of pollutants entering the Chesapeake Bay via the county’s municipal separate storm sewer system, or MS4. The county operates the MS4 under a permit from the state which requires the development and implementation of action plans for impaired waterways.

TMDL refers to the allowed “Total Maximum Daily Load” of the pollutants allowed to enter a water body without violating water quality standards.

The Phase II plan builds on the county’s Phase 1 Chesapeake Bay TMDL Action Plan, which was approved by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality in 2015.

Comments can be sent by email to stormwater@loudoun.gov or by phone at 703-777-0117.

The draft action plan is posted online at loudoun.gov/stormwater for review and public comment. Comments on the action plan are due by Thursday, Oct. 31.
