Sunset Hills Aids Mother, Son Facing Health Crises

Sunset Hills Winery near Purcellville is gearing up for a Great Wine for the Greater Good project to help a mother and son who both face serious health challenges.

Starting Saturday, Dec. 7,Sunset Hills will be hosting an online Facebook auction that will include a hand-painted decorative wine barrel that can include a family portrait of your family on the barrel head, as well as dinners, wine experiences, art and more.

The proceeds will be dedicated to help Ana Bowyer and her 15-year-old son Lander. Lander was born with a severe heart condition and a host of other health issues and was not expected to develop mentally or to be able to walk. With the dedication of his single mother, he beat the odds to become a happy, well-adjusted boy who not only walks, but is a straight A student. By the age of 14, he had undergone more than 16 heart surgeries, including two open heart.Last month, he suffered a heart ablation. Doctors anticipate that he will need another open-heart surgery.

Bowyer, who works for Mosaic Design, worked on the design of Sunset Hills’ barrel room and 50 West Vineyards’ kitchen and baths, among many other projects. Years living as sole supporter for her son has taken a toll on her heath. She is in renal failure and receives dialysis three days a week and can no longer see well enough to do her work.
