Goodwin House Announces Plans for Loudoun Senior Living Campus

Goodwin House has announced plans to develop a new senior living campus in the Peterson Companies’ Avonlea project along Rt. 50 west of South Riding.

“Over the next 20 years, the number of older adults needing high quality, financially accessible senior living in our country will nearly double, and Loudoun County will see its population of older adults grow faster than any other area in Northern Virginia,” Goodwin House President & CEO Rob Liebreich said in announcing the new project. “We see these growing demographics of older adults and believe our mission calls us to find additional ways to support, honor and uplift the lives of older adults and those who care for them through the development of a not-for-profit senior living community at the Avonlea.”

The nonprofit operates senior living communities in Alexandria and Baily’s Crossroads, serving more than 2,200 residents.

In addition to offering independent living, assisted living and memory support, the new community will feature a variety of wellness and brain health programs, includingStongerMemory, Medicare-certifiedHome HealthandHospice, the company said.

The 200-unit Loudoun campus is expected to open in spring 2025. For updates on the project, go toseniorlivingloudoun.org.

Peterson’s Avonlea is a master-planned community slated to include retail and commercial businesses, market rate apartments and medical offices.

    Loudoun County is in desperate need of affordable housing, including for seniors. Kudos to this developer for potentially assisting hundreds of low-income seniors in Loudoun County. That doesn’t mean all green space in Loudoun must be destroyed. Development & green space aren’t mutually exclusive. At last night’s BOS meeting, a young lady spoke movingly about the need for affordable housing for teachers. She noted that many teachers live outside of Loudoun due to lack of affordable housing. Clearly, changes need to be made.

      The story clearly states that these rental units will be “market rate.”

      There is no constitutional right to “affordable housing”. If that was the case, everybody would have a right to live and afford a place in Georgetown, McLean or Great Falls. That’s the reason people have been commuting from less expensive areas to work for decades. Randall and her comrades intend to destroy rural and suburban Loudoun and the quality of life by pushing social engineering experiments in the form of “affordable housing” on our residents.

    How many hours is too many for one to spend commuting? And then when these low income folks spend all their time commuting, are you going to state that the problem with their kids is not enough time with their parents?

    How about when their older cars break down because of all the miles? Will you complain about them being on welfare?

    Many of these people are killing themselves just to make ends meet, but those who have better circumstances can’t be bothered to help.
