This is a waste of taxpayer dollars, and in spite of the reassurances we get the chief will still be reporting to the Board of Supervisors and will be subject to the Board’s whims and political leanings. At least when you have an ELECTED Sheriff in charge of the whole kit and kaboodle, if things go the wrong way that person is subject to a recall petition, aside from the 4 year ritual of, as the late Mayor Ed Koch used to say, “How am I doin’?”
Exactly. Chapman is a politician with law enforcement experience. The chief of police with be a law enforcement officer who answers to politicians. While the words are different the theory is the same, except the BoSgains more political control. That never a good idea.
